BLI EMD NW2 Switcher won't move
Posted by Docjmp on Sunday, July 19, 2015 2:33 PM

Hi Everyone,

I need some help determining why a loco I have won't move. It's a BLI EMD NW 2 Switcher, UP #1079. It is getting power as the cabin light comes on, the whistle and bell works as does any other DCC induced sound. It just won't move in any direction. Other locos on the same track work fine. Suggestions?

Thanks.

Jim,

Have you had it in a consist recently? What you are reporting are the symptoms of a locomotive that has had CV 19 changed to a consist and then not changed back to zero. Check that out first.

Could the address been changed by accident? Put it on your programming track, and see if you can get a read back on the address.

I'm usually quick to put on program track, do a reset and power off/on. Then see if it responds on address 3, read cv8 for manufacturer ID, etc. If ok it just got confused. Then reset any other cvs to liking. Easy if you've kept notes.

If the above does not work you know there's a more difficult problem.

Ditto.

Advanced consisting programming still active.

(Off the wall chance, and only if it's the older version, the sound decoder has one address, the motor decoder another... But way off the wall chance at that one. I would guess it's a consist issue.)

Thanks, everyone for your input. It turned out that CV 19 somehow got changed and when I reset it to O, the loco moved again. First time I've ever encoutered that happening.

Jim,

Glad it worked out. One of the lessons I have learned is to start with the simple solutions before making the problem more complicated. Don't ask how I learned that.
