We habe quite often discussed whether model railroading is an art or not. I have always seen it rather being a craft than an art, but I do have to correct my view.
Peter Dillen, a Dutch artist and model railroader, has created a micro layout in the best fashion of the famous Dutch painters of the 17th century. It was on display at OnTraxS!, the annual model railroad show held in the Dutch railway Museum of Utrecht - certainly the appropriate setting for showing some of the best European layouts! His layout won "Best in Show" and when you look at the picture, you understand why!
The layout is about 1 ft. deep and 2 ft. wide, the track plan not more than an oval with maybe some staging facility in the back of the layout, but - hey, what an atmosphere.
Wow - that's outstanding work.
