Visiting Salt Lake City end Jan. Sights to see?
Posted by pjjkg on Thursday, January 1, 2015 6:47 PM

Happy New Year to all. I am attnding a conference in SLC Jan 28-Feb 1.

Any recommendations on hobby shops, museums, prototypical sights, layouts or other railroad stuff to see? Is renting a car to go up to Ogden worth it?

We will be free all day Thursday.

Thanks.

I and my son appreciate your help.

You shouldn't need a car unless the convention site or hotel aren't convenient for mass transit.  It's easy to get to Ogden via UTA FrontRunner and there's lots to see within a short distance from the Trax light rail.  Maybe you can get a start here http://www.visitutah.com/travel-regions/northern-utah/salt-lake-city/ .

If you do get as far north as Ogden, you can visit Union Station. There is a fairly decent railroad museum and an incredible museum dedicated to John Browning.
