Have a Proto 2000 Heritage Steamer. Want to go DCC. Need advice on system
to use and installation tips. It is DCC ready.

When you say you need advice on the system to use, do you mean you have no DCC system at the present time?
If you want only a basic DCC starter set, you have a choice between several systems (NCE, Digitrax, MRC, Lenz, etc.), depending on the size of your layout and future expansion possibilities, so we need a lot more information.
Is the Proto Heritage locomotive the only one you have that is DCC ready?

A LokSound Select would be a good choice for this locomotive. You can order it from Litchfield Station, Tony's Trains, Ulrich Hobby Shop, or other vendors and have them program the LokSound "Heavy Steam" sound file into the decoder.
The sites listed above ask what sound file you want as part of the checkout process. A Select decoder that has not been programmed by them will have only a very generic sound file.
I have three Heritage 2-8-8-2's and tried Tsunamis in them 8 or 9 years back. Not such good sound for articulateds. I now have a TCS WOW in one and like it once I found good settings, so plan to change the others. The TCS is more versatile than the Selects, with many choices of whistles, bells, etc. w/o need of a programmer.
