Service Sheet for older Britannia?

Hornby now offer service sheets on their website(as you have found), but you do need to make sure which version of this loco you have - they upgraded it to a superdetail specification fairly recently. If you can, I would suggest contacting either Modelspares or East Kent Models, both of these companies are based in the UK and specialise in parts for Hornby locos. They also have service sheets. I'm unsure of their addresses, but if you search on www.google.co.uk you should find a reference to them somewhere. I've dealt with both in the past and found them very good. Alternatively, if you can get hold of a copy of Model Rail magazine they both advertise in there.

The extra pickups were fitted to the more recent versions of this loco - Hornby complying with proposed new legislation regarding electrical appliances (basically to reduce interference they will be fitting as many pickups as possible and adding weight, which is always a good idea!). If you can fit the extra pickups to the older loco (I'm not sure how much was changed for the superdetailed one) it would be worth doing so, as the loco will run more reliably. I've modified an old Hornby Class 142 2-car railbus in this way, adding the power-conducting coupler from a later one to one of the older twin-motor versions (new ones only have one car powered) resulting in much improved running (all I had to do was fit the new coupler, drill four holes for the wires to go through the chassis, and solder them to the pickups). This used parts obtained from East Kent Models
