It's a new loco. Not unusual to have a few bugs so what's our recourse? Walthers said"Call Rivarossi" Good God, that's an international call. Lets find out up front and nail down the proper procedure. Here's the old Rivarossi Modelexpo Warranty. "For one year model expo will replace all defective parts free of charge but without labor. Send defective parts to modelexpo for replacement" I flunked Modelrailroading 101. I could never take apart the Northern, Challenger or Mallet. All of them failed within 30 days and I got my money back. I might add, I bot two Mantuas and received a nice letter from their President who stated "Lifetime Warranty" Three months later, no more Mantua trains. Burnt by steam too many times .
