Modelboard of LION
Posted by BroadwayLion on Monday, August 18, 2014 10:42 AM

LION has installed new modelboard of him. Works great. Looks great. Him cannot photograph both the GRS machine and the Modelboard in a single frame since the back of him is to the wall already.

Maybe something else him will have to try.

Be as that may, now that this is working, AND cooler weather is in the portends, I should be able to get to doing some real cosmetic work on the laoyut.

Brother Elias!

That is truly awesome! Your wiring skills and simple methods are admirable.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Oh, brother!

Not only a great looking trainboard, but take a look at that wonderful layout our feline friend is building from leftovers we all would take to the dump.

I think this layout and its creation is worth to be covered by MR!

Kinda makes one stop and think about the items we toss..

Lion's trainboard looks great.

Lion...

That's just so impressive. As others have mentioned above, what you have accomplished is amazing. Now having followed your posts for sometime, I do have a question. Do any of the other monks ever show an interest in participating with you in the construction, scenery or any other phase of your little empire? I would think that among you, there would be many, many skill sets available.

None of the other monks take too much interest in it. Fr. Stephen likes to show visitors up there, so I gave him a broom and a commission to keep the floor clean.

Br. John is our mantenance master, I get lots of stuff from him, and some advice too. I needed a 1 rpm motor for my automation system, and he came up with two of them, and one of them already had six switches built into it.  Exactly Perfect!

Br. James has bee doodling about with pencil sketches, I think I will bring him a box of unpanted figures and see if he is inteseted in painting them.

All monks are encouraged to have hobbies, fishing and golf are among the most expensive, others make rugs, rossarys, soap, pottery and other crafts.

Lion,  That is quite a feat.  Are the three illuminations on the board signifying a stopped train?

Hehehe... When I bought them they were only $10.00 each! Still, that is a lot of money, and it is true that the last of these were purchased at a much higher price. When I need something, I write up a proposal and present it to the Abbot. If he approves, I can buy the items. New subway cars, as much as I would like them, will not happen, but parts and tools are usually approved, after all, monks are encouraged to have a hobby. Golf coasts a lot more, especially when the golf corse is almost 70 miles away ($80.00 car fare) but at least that is exercise.

Nickle and Dime, Nickle and Dime, and eventually you have a railroad that is worth thousands. Still, LION must look at how he can do things for free. I recently got some nice couragated plastic board from the Pepsi company. Retired advertizing panels: eventually they will be buildings and stuff like that.

Yes, sort of. The lamp comes on just as a train enters the station, and it will remain lit until it begins to enter the next station. It is tied into the automatic control system. LIONS do not run the trains. That is automatic, LION stays in the dower and does the dispatching duties and maintains the OS logs. The "Railroad Clock" is tied to the control system, if I pause the layout, the clock will stop.

Brother Elias shouldn't there be a "Caution Low Clearance" sign on there I think I would walk into it being busy watching trains run

It is over the table, not over the isle. Directly in front of me is the GRS machine, so the point is moot.
