Hello Bob, Yes, SWs were equipped with sand boxes. There are two hatches at the rear of the cab on either side of the door and a hatch on each side of the hood at the headlight end. You can see these hatches in a drawing on page 45 of Cyclopedia Vol. 2: Diesel Locomotives (Kalmbach). Happy holidays to you and yours as well, Paul Schmidt Contributing Editor Trains.com
