Although never finished, the Washita and Santa Fe MR project layout. I plan on using that as a template for my layout as soon as I get into a bigger home.
Cat Mountain and Santa Fe as far as a "finished" layout goes.
Rich,
Speaking of which, how come we never see any photos of your layout?
Well today is my Birthday, I received my scanner today,so I can use the 35mm photos,of many pic's of trains and my Trucks, as soon as USPS,delivers my new camera, I will have to spend some time to ''read'' the directions. So my guess would be,this month, sometime. 71,
Cheers,
Frank

Some of these layouts (i.e. Alturas and Lone Pine and St Clair & Northern) that people stated were in Model Railroader back in the 1960s and 1970s. Those who were active in this hobby during that time frame would remember those layouts because of the outstanding craftsmanship. Those of you not familiar with these layouts should check out the back issues of model railroader. I think you will be impressed with these layouts also.
It would have been useful for those who reply regarding their favorite layout to mention the issue of MR magazine in which the layout was featured.

Let's bring everybody back to tell us where we can find out more about the layouts that they cite.

JoeinPA My all time favorite is Ben King's Timber City and Northwestern. It was an amazing gem with exquisite detail that got me to thinking that a small, well detailed layout could be as satisfying as a basement filling behemoth. Joe

Anyone who may be interested. If you would like to see, thousands of Prototype Photographs, from Locomotives, box cars,Depots,Bridges, etc. click on that link,at the top, above, Pioneers of Model Railroading, where it says Home, click on that and in the center, you will see a steam Locomotive, click on that, it will take you to NMRA Online Archives Photographs, then just click on the title, you want to view, literally, 10,000 Photo's and it's free. Would not be a bad Idea to save it in favorites, a lot of info there, from all railroads..
Rich, you should get the MR CD version, has all these layouts in it, easily searchable. Bruce Chubb's Sunset Valley has been in a couple dozen issues of MR over the years, and MRP recently. Also the book How to Operate Your Model RR was written by him. Both the G&D and V&O also are covered in books which should be in your local library, if not available on line. C&DR also appeared in multiple issues of MR. The CM&SF has been in many issues of both MR & MRP. All these layouts were covered in video version by Allan Keller. I have the videos for C&DR, CM&SF, V&O, Indian Creek Valley, and Hoosac Valley.
I guess one reason folks don't understand your confusion is these layouts are not just one issue deals, but have been so heavily covered in MR and RMC over the years, in fact the most recent version of the V&O is in the current issue of GMR, that these guys are still setting the standards for today. If you look at the Feb 2006 MR, the version of the Sunset Valley there is so massive, it defies belief.
jmbjmb,
Good point, getting the MR CD version of the magazine.
It isn't a matter of "confusion" with me, it is a matter of lack of knwledge as to the identity of all of these layouts.
C&DR, CM&SF, V&O, Indian Creek Valley, and Hoosac Valley? Those names mean nothing to me.
Everyone else in my position is apparently too timid to admit it on this thread. Oh well.
Favorite? That would be my own T/C.
I DO enjoy seeing Bob Boudreau's Fundy Northern modules, as great sources of ideas.

Or they know how to use Google.
THOUGH I'm NEW ( 2007 ) to this, I have to go with Joe fugates Siskiyou line ,I have seen Pict's of others and there great , but I really call the Siskiyou as MY favorite, but I like all the San Diego layouts @ the model railroad museum too ,but that has a lot to do with being able to spend hours going over every detail , its tough to say favorite when Ive never seen one I didn't like...Jerry
Doug Tagsold's D&RGW layout.
It's been torn down so I've read.

Evening everyone. I agree with other contributors there are many layouts on this forum that are very inspiring but I have two favorite layouts:
Jon Grant's Sweet Home Alabama HO Layout. I have had the pleasure of meeting Jon when he exhibited his layout down South in the UK a couple of years ago and watched him operating it -amazing scenery , structures and detailed loco's and rolling stock.
My other favorite is my brother Basement Dweller's layout - his layout got me into this brilliant hobby.

Sure, you can Google all of this stuff, but why bother?
The thread is about your favorite layout.
Every time Joe Blow says, I like XYZ layout by Pete Moss, I am supposed to go look up XYZ layout on Google? Nah, I don't think so.

Or, since most of the railroads have been covered in MR at one time or another why not use the convenient magazine index at the top of the Modelrailroader.com page?
Or, why not have the guy mentioning the layout, tell us where we can see it.
Arrrrgh.
Here is a link to the page on my site. Check out the links under great layouts…Especially for Rich.
