CB&Q Modeling Help
Posted by FRRYKid on Saturday, July 20, 2013 6:00 PM
I purchased a 60' Burlington 1999 special car (Con-Cor) recently and found a small problem. For the area that I run, I need to change the road number. A mention was made that a special set was made (1998 Car Project Decals). However, I doubt one is available. Given that, are there any "Q" modeler that can help me get a set with a close or even exact match to the road numbers (short of making them myself) that would allow me to renumber the car? I need numbers to make the series 70-84 or 88 and 89. Any help would be much appreciated.

Perhaps you can find decals from Micro-Scale that would work. However, you might be the only person knowing the number is not correct, and you may simply ignore the incorrect number.

Checking the Microscale site was the first thing I tried and, unless I wasn't using the right key word, I couldn't find anything.

If you know the font (gothic, railroad roman, etc.) it would just be a matter of getting a decal set of numbers the right height.

According to what the instructions show it states "Gothic Lettering Style Font." Unfortunately, Gothic lettering style doesn't help much at least to me. (I was a Graphic Designer for 10 years, so the font possibilities are endless.) If I could find the right font, I could make the new decals as I have the software and hardware to make my own decals. (I'm to the point where I dislike having to piecemeal letters. As many railroaders know, it is almost impossible to get piecemeal letters straight.)

I found one more thing that I need to ask. I have found plenty of pictures of these cars. Some of them some the cars having tack boards and some don't. Unfortunately, I haven't found any for the numbers I would like to have represented? Was there any rhyme or reason to what cars had them and what cars didn't?

Given that I can't seem to find a match for the fonts on the cars, I've decided that I will show pictures of the spots in question to see if the forums can help.

The first one is a shot of one of the car ends.

The second one is a shot of the car side.

My apologies on the quality of the photos. I didn't have my tripod in use so the pictures are a little blurry.

Hopefully this helps the font match somewhat.
