Evenin' folks!

Janie just a glass of lemonade for me right now.

I have spent much of the day getting everything ready for the NMRA Picnic tomorrow.  Hopefully I will have everything done...

Galaxy, yep, today has been a good day for the electric.  Should be around 25 kWh by the time it shuts down in a few minutes.  Just doing some quick figuring, I have been putting about 250 miles a week on the PiP.  That includes a couple somewhat long trips since I bought the car and averaging one 100+ mile drive out to museum each week.  There are also the 30+ mile round trips to Canandaigua to take care of my sisters cat when she is in the "very far".  I have been getting between 70 and 75 mpg per tank most of the time.  Now that does not take into consideration the pure electric being used for many of those miles in the equation.  For your wife, if it would be usable, and older Prius or other Hybrid car would give about double the gas mileage of what you are driving now.  The key issue would be if a car like that would be able to serve what the use is for YOH.  The downside is that most hybrids tend to hold value very well compared to a similar ICE powered car so it is more expensive.  However....  There are far fewer parts needing to be replaced on the hybrids.  For instance no fan belt.  Brakes tend to last 150,000 miles or more.

I best get moving as I still have a few things to get done tonight.  I'll stop in later if I can.

Hey Karl..........is True Line Paint water based acrylic?

No, it is acrylic, but not water based. It's acetone based, yup, you can clean up with SWMBO's fingernail polish remover if you have to. Huh?

Personally I just gave the airbrush a quick shot up the siphon tube of carb cleaner. It's safer than trying to get ahold of the nail polish remover! MischiefHmmSmile, Wink & Grin

Today I shot the frame of a loco with Floquil Engine Black. 2 hours later, it's still tacky and smells of solvent.............NOW I remember why I was so disappointed when Accu-paint went belly up.! (Same stuff, different company).

One other perk.....the Tru - Color bottles have the same size cap as a Floquil or Polly Scale bottle, so they screw right on to my air brush!! Big Smile

morning coffee in then diner...

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, July 27th, 2013!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 9 AM for those in need...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Have you ever been 'sacked'?, if so:

Meaning:

Be dismissed from a job

Origin:

Today it means to get laid-off, hopefully with severance pay and an explanation? But, in the old days, artisans came with their own tools for the job (usually in a sack). When an employer wanted to fire someone, all he did was hand him his sack and tell him to take his tools and go! No justification was needed. Since the 17th century, the phrase has remained as an expression of losing your job (whether fired or laid-off). Little or no justification is needed for many firings these days either.

Another view and history on the subject, resulting in the same meaning {old English is so hard to read}:

The probable derivation of this phrase is an allusion to tradesmen, who owned their own tools and took them with them in a bag or sack when they were dismissed from employment.

It has been known in France since the 17th century, as 'On luy a donné son sac'. The first recorded English version is in Charles Westmacott's The English Spy, 1825:

"You munna split on me, or I shall get the zack for telling on ye."

In his 1869 'Slang Dictionary', John Hotten records these alternatives - 'get the bag' (from the North of England) and 'get the empty' (from London)

Good Morning!!!

Chicken salad sandwich, yes the one with grapes and pineapple, some BBQ chips and…, coffee I guess. Not that I like drinkin coffee with a meal othern what is generally accepted as “breakfast” foods, but it is morning and I need coffee or I feel like I’m missing something.

Check THIS out for the end of July; Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. They’re not calling for it to get back into the 80’s until Wednesday.

IndifferentOh my. What’s that in the corner? Ray in a Speedo?Tongue Tied Well, um…I was ganna tell him his garden boxes has given me the answer for a garden myself because it seems everywhere there is a good spot for one, there is a shallow utility buried across there. ButWhistling, I think I’ll wait until he’s done sunbathing.

Dennis- Glad you’re ok.

Welp, gonna check out this TYCO site ( I think I’ve been there before) then get back to the apartment. Downhill slide timeYes. She, the bosses wife, or should I say the real boss, however has added a few things she wants now that she sees it with the carpet is in, so being done by the 1st will be pushing it hard. Luckily the new person won't be moving in til a week later, but I am ignoring that because well, just because it will be better for all to still plan on the 1st. He's, my friend, is getting a bit upset, but she just wants it to look nice. I tease him and say whenever I see her van pull up...."And when the fourth seal was opened, I heard a voice say, "Come". And I looked, and behold a blue mini van and her name that rode in it was Death..... and hell followed with her". Laugh She's a very nice lady. She just wants it to be a nice place to live for someone and he just wants to get it done cheap. Between the two when the smoke settles, it usually is a very nice compromise.

I hope I get time this weekend to fry up the eggrolls my friends wife’s mother made. They are usually very very goodDinner. She’s Vietnamese but eggrolls apparently are universal I guess. HmmYou know come to think of it, I don’t remember eggrolls in Korea. Chicken on a stick I doYes, but not eggrolls. Hm.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 75° (already feels like 86°) with 99% humidity. The high will be 88° and will feel like 101°.

Looks like today could be a bit wet, not that it bothers me any. I don't intend on going anywhere. There's a possibility of thunderstorms with continuous lightning. These storms are moving southeast.

I finally managed to get to sleep late last night and got a little over five hours. I ache all over though. Really overdid it yesterday. I started the antibiotic regimen last night. That's supposed to go on for three weeks. The doc also has me scrubbing my foot and leg down with Betadine every day. Boy that stuff is messy. It's sort of like iodine on steroids.

Morning all!

Strong cuppa joe is all if you please.

Hurting unit here today fellas. Been working outside all week and it's starting to take it's toll. Planted a dozen new trees, pruned a dozen or so more, and been trying to keep up with all the nasty weeds and unhealthy growth around the fruit trees and grape vines. I think I may take today off...but knowing me I will go out just to "putter" and end up putting in another full day. I have been itching to do some work on the layout, but I may have to content myself with working on my gravel conveyor and gravel work building kits.

Anyways, hope all are well and have a great day!

Don.

Morning All,

Currently it is 62 with an expected high of 95, with the possibility of a thunder storm late in the afternoon.

Had a nice dinner with my oldest daughter last night. She brought over some catfish which I fried up, I also made some broccoli. She spent the night, and will give me a haircut before she leaves.

I hope to finish the Brook Hill Dairy building today or tomorrow, and w**k on a few other building  kits I have. In between building kits, I hope to get some scenery done.

Dennis - Glad you are OK, Some of those first rains in So. Cal can make the roads real slick.

    Prayers to all in need.

Jeffrey you are so right about the Betadine being messy but it does a great job of getting rid of any nasty infection causing bacteria that may be loitering around on that leg of yours given your foots current state with constant ongoing infections. Your Doc is on the right track in my opinion for what it's worth.

It's going to be a traumatic experience even though you should have had this done quite some time ago and are glad it's finally happening. Just take it cool and in the end your life will be better with greater mobility. It's also good that the surgery is not far off so you don't have to wait any longer now that the decision's been made.

Take care my friend.

V8Vega
I wrecked my 87 Fiero GT today,

Sorry to hear about your accident Dennis. I owned two of those little devils back a few years ago and I loved them. In my experience they accelerate so fast because of the power to weight ration that you don't realize how fast you are going some of the time. I found that ramps were the worst. I'd look down and I'd be going like the mill tails of hell without even noticing it. They also stick to the road like glue so to speak with the 4 wheel independent suspension and the mid engine but when they let go , they really let go in a big way.

Good you weren't hurt.

Been a busy day so far. A trip to Wal-Mart to get seven boxes of 4x4 gauze pad, two rolls of masking tape and a 32oz bottle of 91% alcohol. Then a stop at the bank to make a deposit. Then set in on doing more work on the IIe. Changed out the black lettered keyboard with the white lettered keyboard from my mothers IIe. I can see the white letters easier. It's also the type keyboard mine came with originally. The computers case and the shells of the disk drives have been painted a brushed metallic color similar to that of the platinum model IIe. That's it for now.

afternoon guys

Train club went ok. The guy who offered to "fix" my rapido cars said he only got 2 done. I would have done it myself, but I don't have the tools or materials suggested by a member who runs a ton of passenger stuff. He did say I'll probably need a second engine for it. That's good cause I got a second Kato F40PH and have a lead on a third. I've also found an Atlas GP39-2, 12 more of those walther's coal gons (I would have to renumber them), and some other stuff. I had saved for a while, so I have some $ to burn...

Dennis, Sorry to hear about the car, but at least you're ok.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well I had to change back to a black lettered keyboard on the IIe. The reset button on the white lettered one wouldn't work. Didn't know if the button was defective or there was some conflict with the 65C02 processor. I put the suspect keyboard in a 6502 equipped chassis and tested it. Definitely a defective keyboard. Come to think of it that's exactly why I had the original keyboard in my Apple replaced back in 1986. Played a game of Starfleet1 this evening. I had to hunt down and destroy twenty-five enemy ships. The last one was a cloaked vessel. Kinda hard to find when you can't see them. I finally found the sucker and smoked him like a cheap cigar, but not before he did plenty of damage. The Galactica will be out of service for a while. No train news other than the layout is getting a mite dusty.

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday, July 28th, 2013!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 9AM for those in need..

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

How oten have you ever used the phrase 'kick the bucket'?, SO:

Meaning:

To die.

Origins:

This is an expression meaning death. The phase originates from slaughter houses.  When a cow was to be killed, a bucket was placed under him, while he was being positioned on a hoist. Sometimes, while adjusting the hoist, it made the animals legs jerk and he'd kick the bucket before he was killed

OR, if you prefer:

We all know what a bucket is - and so this phrase appears rather odd. Why should kicking one be associated with dying?

The link between buckets and death was made by at least 1785, when the phrase was defined in Grose’s Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue:

"To kick the bucket, to die."

One theory as to why, albeit with little evidence to support it, is that the phrase originates from the notion that people hanged themselves by standing on a bucket with a noose around their neck and then kicking the bucket away. There are no citations that relate the phrase to suicide and, in any case, why a bucket? Whenever needing something to stand onpeople generally don't opt for a bucket. This theory doesn't stand up any better than the supposed buckets did.

The mist begins to clear with the fact that in 16th century England bucket had an additional meaning (and in some parts it still has), i.e. a beam or yoke used to hang or carry items. The term may have been introduced into English from the French trébuchet - meaning a balance, or buque - meaning a yoke. That meaning of bucket was referred to in Peter Levins' Manipulus vocabulorum. A dictionarie of English and Latine wordes, 1570:

"A Bucket, beame, tollo."

and was used by Shakespeare in Henry IV Part II, 1597:

"Swifter then he that gibbets on the Brewers Bucket." [to gibbet meant to hang]

The wooden frame that was used to hang animals up by their feet for slaughter was called a bucket. Not unnaturally they were likely to struggle or to spasm after death and hence 'kick the bucket'.

I've finally gotten what amounts to a good nights sleep for me. Close to seven hours. No plans for today. But I'm sure something will come up.

  Morning All,

Currently it is 67 with an expected high of 95. A cooling trend is supposed to start tomorrow, with the highs in the low 90's.

Need to go to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things before it gets too hot, I hope to get some scenery w**k done on the layout today. Yesterday I finished the Brook Hill Dairy building, finished a few small Atlas kits that were give to me as presents, and started on the Walthers Hardwood Furniture kit. Another building with a whole lot of windows.

   Prayers to all in need.

Good morning!  Missed a day yesterday.  I had plans to drive up to Maine and visit my daughter first thing in the morning.  It's about an hour and a half drive.  But, she was partying a bit much Friday, and texted me to say to show up about lunchtime.  Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men.  I got on the road about a quarter to 11, and hit traffic, all the way up until after the tolls in Maine.  In short, it took about 3 1/2 hours.  The bike ride together we had planned did not happen, but we got to go to Portland, a very nice small city, and have dinner outside at one of the great restaurants that populate the waterfront district.

I had a Fiero, too, about an '85.  It was my last "bachelor car." It had some issues.  When it was gone, it did not miss it.  It was OK if you had another car to carry stuff, but my MGB had more cargo space.  (Dang, I saw two old B's yesterday.  They bring back sweet memories.)

It's getting warm out, and I'm feeling sluggish.  I had a tooth pulled Friday, and I'm on antibiotics and Ibuprofen for that.  Actually, I'm supposed to avoid strenuous activity for a day or two, so it's just as well.  I'm getting back to the discouraging job of mortaring a bunch of brick walls for the tannery.  They're not coming out well, so I'm trying different paints and mortars.  I've also got 3 undecorated freight cars, two old boxcars for "Hide Loading Only" and a hopper for salt, so I can pick what I want to do for a while.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Mornin' everyone...  Huh?  Wow!  That late already?

OK, Chloe I'll just have a refill on the dark roast coffee then...

Actually I have been sitting here at the computer going through all the photos I took yesterday at the combined Divisions Summer Picnic.  Was a nice day right up until we were about ready to leave.  Around 4 PM it started to sprinkle and withing a few minutes it was a downpour, but we had all packed up and gone home by then.

Currently 71°F outside with a high of 73 later this afternoon.  Another day I have the Air Conditioner turned off and the windows open.  Just have to be watchful as there some rain clouds nearby.  That said old mister sun has been peeking through every now and then....

Oh, yes, I do have some photos to share...  The Finger Lakes Live Steamers yesterday!

They have a new pet out there....  This guy has been hanging around all summer.  Evidently feels quite safe and seems to enjoy being around people.  He does do a quick disappearing act when someone brings a dog out there though!

He was standing about 3' from me when I took the photo...

We got to ride as long as we wanted.

Later!

Another Sunday of railfanning has now passed. Not so good today as we only saw 4 trains. However, one mixed freight was pretty interesting. It had a consist of 9 loconotives with the lead being the Savannah & Atlanta Heritage Unit. That makes 2 of those guys I've now seen. Not too optimistic about ever seeing them all.

Dinner tonight was a London Broil, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and a bottle of my favorite wine. That's a Reisling from a winery on the western shore of Seneca Lake. Oh, and for desert there were peanut butter cookies the wife made yesterday.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping & errands day. It doesn't look like a whole lot needs done, so maybe we will get home early for a change. Of course, the day will stary off with breakfast at a diner across the river. It's a 20 minute drive from our house, but worth it. Good food, good coffee and good service. Can't ask for more than that.

Hope everybody had a nice weekend and that you all have a great week.

Evenin' folks,

Chloe, I'll have the steak sandwich (use Miracle Whip please), Some fries, and an ear of fresh local sweet corn for supper tonight.  Oh and I'll have a glass of what Tom is having to go along with it.

Tom, Reisling?  Semi or dry?  Was that from Anthony Road or Fox Run?  I love them both....

Been dark and gloomy much of the day with some bright sun for a few minutes off and on...  Currently 67°F with an earlier high of 74°.  Kept the air conditioner off all day and was still quite comfortable here. The MLK picnic that was supposed to be tonight got cancelled as only a few of us could attend.  That gave me some extra time to get a few things done around here.

Did wash today so I got some time to get a bit more scenery done on the layout.  May get a couple photos later tonight for WPF.

Good evening all!! Cowboy

Been a lazy day, well, kinda. Confused  After breakfast I cleaned the basement while SWMBO cleaned the upstairs. Ahh yes,, the charm of a rancher, long basement, no 2rd floor! Midnight and Tinkerbell didn't like it though, because we were both running vacuum cleaners at the same time!Mischief Afterwards I flopped my butt down on the couch to watch the stock cars run at Indy. After the race I did manage to fashion a lead truck for my Mikado Project. The original Zamac shattered the other day. The brass replacement should last forever.

Tomorrow I will take a jaunt on the ladder to the top of the garage to retrieve boxes for some locos that will be on ebay soon. I'll be purging some early Atlas and Athearn BB's from the roster. Nothing wrong with them, just don't fit into my operational scheme. Here's one of them now. It's been 2 years since it was run,,,I don't need it.

til tomorrow,

best wishes for us all!

Nothing much happened today. Tore down a disk drive, replaced the motor and reassembled it and put it back in service. This evening I went to KFC with my father and step mother. Now it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
