Trouble posting pictures here
Posted by E-L man tom on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 3:30 PM

I know that this subject has been discussed many, many times before on this forum. I apologize for having to bring it up again. I've even downloaded instructions on how to do so.

My problem is when I click on "Direct" or "Direct Link" in Photobucket, then go to this site, my picture(s) do not appear anywhere in my reply, even though the text in Photobucket says "copied". Also, when I click on the "insert image" icon, it asks me for a URL link. Excuse my ignorance, but I typed in "Photobucket" and all it did was produce the Photobucket  link; no picture. I know this has to be operator error. So, what am I doing wrong? This technical ignorance on my part has kept me from posting a lot of pictures.

Tom, don't be so hard on yourself.

From the information that you provided, you are doing everything correctly.

When you click on Direct in Photobucket and get the Copied verification, you are halfway there.

When you paste the URL into the box on the Insert Image icon on this forum, the image should appear in the text of your message.

Try it again.

Tom, I looked at your message again.

You need to paste the URL that you copied on Photobucket into the Inser Image box, then click on the Insert button.

I'm a Photobucket user also.  Rich is on the right track with helping you above.

Here's an image from my Photobucket account.  You're already getting the URL from Photobucket when you click in the "direct" or "direct link" box and the Photobucket site says "copied."  The copy process only provides the URL for use in linking to the photo, not the photo itself.  When you click on the "insert image" link in the MR forum editor, the editor needs the entire URL you just copied so it can generate the necessary code to embed the photo in your post.

In short, you're not able to copy and paste the actual photo into a post. What you're doing is providing the forum editor with a URL that it can then use to fetch the photo from your Photobucket account and insert it into your post along with the text.  If you're using the normal editor and not messing with html, the process is mostly hidden and all you see is the end result.

This is the link to the photo http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a506/wp8thsub/Equipment/DSC00251_zps8bcd6d10.jpg .  Insert the link into the text as I did here, and you won't see the photo.  Paste the same link into the box in the "insert image" tool and the tool does the rest so the image appears.

Well said, Rob.

Since the URL is already copied, when the Insert Image icon is clicked on this forum, simply hold down the Ctrl key and the V key on your keyboard, and the URL will be copied into the box.  Then, click the Insert button and your picture should appear in the text of your message.

Click on 'Direct Link' in Photobucket. You'll see copied. Come to your post and click on the 'Insert Image' icon. Go to the 'Link to media' field, right click and select paste. The direct link will appear in the field. Click 'Insert'. Your photo will appear in your post.

That's all there is to it.

Another way to do it is to click on the 'IMG Codes'. You;ll see 'Copied'. Come to your post, right click, click 'Paste' and you'll see the Img code link appear. Finish your post and click Post. When you see you post you'll see you photo displayed.

My problem is when I click on "Direct" or "Direct Link" in Photobucket, then go to this site,

when i locate an image somewhere on the web, including photobucket, I right-click and select "view image" (using Firefox).   This usually displays just the image.   I copy the URL from the browser and paste that as needed

When you click on the "insert image" link in the MR forum editor, the editor needs the entire URL you just copied so it can generate the necessary code to embed the photo in your post.

Actually, the photo is never embedded in the post. It never reaches Kalmbach's servers. When your BROWSER downloads a forum page, it encounters the code that says: "Go to Photobucket and get this picture so that I can put it here for you to see." YOUR own computer then goes to Photobucket to recover the photo.

If I turn off my "LION" server, all of the photos that I have posted here will disappear until I turn it back on again.

Also, in Photobucket, you can copy the "IMG" link which you can paste directly into the text box in this forum and eliminate the "Insert image"
