Group,
I've searched the Forum and discovered the dangers in using bubble wrap to store cars for any extended period and have followed all the advise to avoid it. I have another problem. I just picked up a nice Roundhouse HO scale covered hopper car online and discovered that then previous owner either never got the message or ignored it. The car has the round imprints of the bubble wrap all over it. It's not overwhelming, but can easily be seen at the right angle and light combination.
Any advice on how to remove the imprints? I've washed the car twice in warm water and dish soap, but that didn't work. So now I turn to the experts for help. I'd like to make this car right, since it's nearly brand new, except for the marred finish.
Thank you,
Len S
Bubble wrap is fine, but people paint and don't let the paint cure and that is causing the problem. Acrylics can take a month or more to cure, even as thin as we apply the paint. Sure it looks dry and we can pick them up and things but to fully cure takes time. All the damage I have ever seen from bubble wrap is people have given their cars a week or so to dry and wrap them up, not a good thing. One last comment, I use bubble wrap that is made by a major company, don't know about the makeup of the dollar store types. I also checked with people in different climes and they all said the same thing.
You could hit it with some clear coat, either dull or gloss, depending on your taste. And if you are to weather it, then I would not worry too much about it.
I was thinking about the dullcoat idea. I don't typically weather my cars, but wanted to explore all options. Thanks for the reply.
