Would someone please identify the locomotive on the cover of the October 2012 issue and the manufacturer as well? Couldn't find it in the issue or the site. Thanx!

Well, if you click "Our Magazine" above, find the "Back Issue" tab, select "2012" [It *is* 2012 not 1012] and then find October you will find it.  BTW: It looks like a Baldwin S-12.

Lion hit the key point - MR was first published in 1934, and there were no locomotives, steam or diesel, in the eleventh century.

Found a photo of a Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 loco with the same pattern of louvers, high hood (to cover a tall, opposed-piston engine) and 'steam cab' visor.  Also found that MILW 1815 was an H10-44.

Mystery solved.

More specifically, the model is a Walthers Proto 2000, and the prototype is a Milwaukee Road Fairbanks-Morse H10-44, in the as-delivered orange/gray/maroon-striped "coach colors" scheme.

Btw, as much as I appreciate the (smug) help. Entering a search, "cover October 2012" will not find the cover of the 2012 issue.

Go to OUR MAGAZINE, then Back Issues and you can see the cover.

Have fun,

Richard
