Cornerstone's Water Street Freight Terminal -- Paint Selection
Posted by Kudlor on Saturday, December 8, 2012 4:28 PM

Hi all,

Building Cornerstone's Water Street Freight Terminal and would like recommendations as to the color to paint the platform.  The platform pieces look like they're intended to represent planking, thus perhaps a wood color and then weather to show long-term wear on the platform.

I'm open to all suggestions wood color or otherwise.  Thanks.

Most weathered wood surfaces are a shade of gray.  Unless treated they tend to turn form new wood to a medium gray, getting lighter with age.  You can make a few look like new peices, suggesting hard use and replacement.  Make some dark spots to indicate liquid spills.  Wood used for such things as bumper strips along the front of loading docks is often creosoted, I use Min-Wax Dark Walnut stain for freshly treated.  Look at old rr ties, they get quite light gray over time.

Good luck,

Richard

Since we talking 'plastic', I would paint the platform with something like Floquil Pollyscale 'Foundation', then brush 'washes' of a light grey over it.   For a 'new' dock, use something like a dark brown 'wash' to represent the creosote timbers.
