50' Box Car
Posted by ChadMichaels on Sunday, December 2, 2012 6:13 PM

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a 50' double door box car with actual opening doors. Does anyone know who makes this model? Any help to steer me in the right direction would be great! Thanks!

Hi Chad- I just took a fast look and found two, a ConRail and a Southern , both by ATHEARN . Yes, they are in my collection and I LOOKED at them. They were kits originally.

If you look on E Bay I bet you will find some Athearn Blue Box ones.

Branchline Trains Blueprint series - now sold by Atlas, has a 50-foot double door box with working doors for its kits.

Not sure if the ready-to-run version offers operating doors as well.

They're transition-era models with various ends, roofs and doors to match specific prototypes.

The small parts are a bit fiddly, but go together well following the instructions.

As Eric indicated, Branchline - actually both their Blueprint and Yardmaster series offerings - have working doors.  I can't remember but I thought some of the Proto 2000 boxcars also have them, as well.
