hi everyone,
i was given a bachmann emd f9 diesel santa fe engine. I think it needs to be oiled/greased but not 100% sure. When i run it it makes a clicking sound which makes me think it may need greased. Is there any place i can go for a video of how to do this. thanks.

traintravler hi everyone, i was given a bachmann emd f9 diesel santa fe engine. I think it needs to be oiled/greased but not 100% sure. When i run it it makes a clicking sound which makes me think it may need greased. Is there any place i can go for a video of how to do this. thanks.
Sean, a clicking sound would more likely a gear problem unrelated to grease/oil. You should first determine the source of the clicks by running it and very closely paying attention to where exactly the sound is coming from. If from one of the trucks, you should disassemble the truck and carefully clean all grease and oil from the gears. Closely inspect each gear tooth, under magnification, for flash or other debris. Any found should be removed (a #11 blade in an Xacto knive is good for this, but again, use a magnifier (Optivisors are your very best friend!) Also look particularly closely at the axle gears to see if they might be cracked. If so, replacing the gear will be necessary.
If the inspection fails to determine the cause, disassemble and clean the upper drive train, again looking for flash, debris, and cracks in gears or other linkage. If nothing else is found, or when you have corrected any problems, lightly oil the bearing (using only a plastic-compatible oil), put a small amount of teflon grease on the gear teeth, and reassemble the drive train. A small amount of light oil on the motor bearings is also a good thing.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Sean, finding creaked axle gears can be hard. I flex the wheel axle's with my fingers. If they are cracked the crack with open up some when flexed.
