Are there any plans to make the Chicago Metra coach cars that are currently in use? I know Three Brothers did, but with the pending release of the MP-36 from TrueLine, I would love to have something.
Wahters just announced its Amtrak cars, but in the background of the picture are the ones I really want!

None that I've heard of. There are a couple more options than the Three Brothers/Holgate & Renoylds cars. Island Model works makes a resin kit for the MIlw/RI style Budd Bi-levels and Union Station Product makes a kit for the CB&Q style Budd cars. Both kits will require a bunch of work if you want them to fit into today's current standards of detail.
Here's a link to my rebuild of an IMW car to get an idea of how much work is involved. Even when it's done it won't hold a candle to even an out of the box Walthers car.

As far as the modern Sumitomo cars go, not much is available. I believe IMW offers a kit for them, but I believe the dimension are off. If anyone decides to do a new bilevel car, it will probably be Kato and will be a Sumitomo car, since they've already done then in N scale. I for one wish someone would do a nice Budd car.

Ahh, wouldn't that be sweet !
Walthers would be the most likely one to make them since they are a Midwestern based company.
The other possibility is Rapido, a Canadian company, that is devoted to producing passenger cars.

Excellent build article! Are you going to finish it here for us? I'd really like to see it all decorated up.
