Best sound for the Mantua Classic 2-6-6-2 with tender?

Hi folks, I am looking to buy the Mantua Classic 2-6-6-2 tender engine, which is available in Western Maryland livery (representing a Western Maryland Class M-1a) either DCC ready with 9-pin plug (Mantua 345002), or with DCC and MRC Digital Sound fitted (Mantua 345102). .

I have viewed / listened to You-Tube clips of the real thing and of the MRC equipped version, and the latter was not very convincing.  I am wondering:

- can anyone please advise on / recommend the best sound system for this engine?

-  is the 9-pin plug a limitation in fitting alternatives to the MRC?

- does the DCC ready version come with the tender prepared for a speaker, or does it require holes to be drilled, etc.?

- is there anything else I need to know, or any helpful reference sites on fitting out the DCC ready version and getting the best sound files for this 1910 vintage comparatively lightweight 2-6-6-2?

One option would be to buy the version with MRC sound and then replace it if not satisfied, but that would be expensive.

I would be grateful for any advice,

TIA,

Bill.

There is no best, only what you like best. MRC is not one of them.

SoundTraxxx recommends the below for the Bachmann 2-6-6-2.

You can cut back the shrink a little on the Tsunami, pull the 9 pin connector and install the tender 9 pin connector. The below link will show you how to do this in Curriculum and SoundTraxx links.

Store the links in Favorites. I can see you will need them.

I am sure it was not obvious but this discussion should be in the DCC and electrical forum. Some may subscribe only to that forum.
