It seems the number of posts at various forums exhibiting distraught over delayed delivery of preordered items is getting all too common. Maybe to the point that an official name should be given for phenomenon.
I submit the "Charlie Brown/Lucy Syndrome" (CBL Syndrome in medical speck) as an appropriate name.
Nothing like having the object of one's desire yanked from his/her grasp right before the anticipated moment of contact.

Well, delayed still means you get it. But Charlie Brown never kicks the football. So it's more like promised products that never materialize even after deposits are taken.
Personally, I have only done preorders twice. Each time I got a price break, the item fit my core plans, and I had high trust for the company. Both orders were fulfilled, one of them after about 9 months - but I knew the delivery time was not definite when I ordered.
Enjoy

I think Tomorrow Tomorrow Maybe Tomorrow Syndrome sounds better...

Vaporware was the term applied to announced but never released computer software and hardware several years ago, so that term may still be relevant today for pre-ordered model railroad products that never materialize or are months, if not years, late.
I get a laugh out of those who get really upset that they are not getting the newest toy when it was supposed to be available. Some even threaten to cancel their order.
These are hobby items, not matters of life or death! So it comes several months after it was expected - what is the concequence with your life, your hobby, etc.? It's almost as if their model railroad was an operating business, and the new piece of equipment was vitally needed for their operating survival!
It's just toys guys!

I'm with Bob on this one. Isn't there anything else to do on the layout until that anticipated piece of gear arrives? Like maybe model something to make the time go by quicker?
To keep this in perspective, maybe we need a term for all the electrons wasted in forum posts and emails fretting about the situation? How does "vapormail" sound?

You mean like actually build one of those 100+ kits I have sitting on the shelf? Lay some of that 100+ feet of flex track I have stock piled? Install one my decoders.
Naw, I'd rather complain on the forums about the 4-8-0 kit that's desperately needed.
Leave my 4-8-0 kits alone!!!!

Sorry Bob,you're wrong on this..
You fail to understand the very basics...
Its not that we need those new toys we just gotta have 'em!
We gotta spend our hobby budget some how!

2. One months freeze dried rations plus can goods.
3, Small gas stove for cooking on.
4. Cash on hand ( power will be off thus no credit or debit card transactions will work at the train store)
5. Plenty of Model Railroad kits and modeling supplies on shelve to prevent withdrawal.
6. Gas for generator to run trains and maybe the refrigerator if there is enough.
Did I leave anything out?

Actually there is an episode he did kick the ball so it does match the Pre-Order methodology; you might get one order if you keep trying and trying and trying...

Has anyone seen any new AF products offered lately - the kind that ran S scale carbodies on O gauge 3 rail track?

I think Lionel's Big Boy and possibly some other articulateds have been 3/16" scale on O gauge track.
Or we could just call it "whining".
I never expect anything to come out on the first expected date that is announced. The farther into the future that expected date is, the more likely it is to move several times.
I don't know why this shocks and surprises people when an anticipated model get delayed by a month or six.

I have to agree with both of you.
These are after all just toys...
But the money that we used to buy them was burning a hole in our pockets. I still have some burns...
If it's late, it is likely the shipper anyway, not the company, so I try to be patient until it comes. So I spend my time on things like building some greatly needed trees.
