Bachmann pancake motors Help!
Posted by PiedmontRR on Sunday, February 26, 2012 7:21 AM

Hi Everyone,

I have 2 older Bachmann locomotives that need replacement powered pancake motors.  One is a BQ23-7 diesel and the other is an F9.  The motors just quit.  I need to replace these motors somehow.  Getting parts is next to impossible so I am putting it out there for anyone who may be able to help.  The units they go in are show pieces for me, so its imperative that i get them running again.   I am a proponent of the newer DCC related stuff, though I don't think that these can run that. These are analogs.   PANCAKE motors as these are commonly called, are the powered trucks with the engine over the truck and they snap into the chasis.  The electrical pick ups are the back set of trucks.  I am needing 2 of these,  I don't think that there is much of a difference between the two different types of locomotive's trucks  as Bachmann's details were not " all that"  back then.

I just got a used Bachmann BQ23 with the pancake motor. The motor looks the same as what is in the GP40 engines with pancake motors. You should be able to find bunches of these around cheap. I just tried the truck covers and side frames and they are interchangable between the two engines. All the gears look the same also.
