Morning all

Well, most of our snow has gone - have been watching the fun down in the South-East where they seem to have loads of snow and an awful lot of people who lack the skills required to cope with it - someone should tell these people that wheelspin does not help...

John, sorry if it was unclear - never been 100% sure how the US system works either! Basically over here you have Primary school from 4-11 or so, then secondary/High school until 16, then (in my case) two years of sixth form before Uni at 18. After 16 it's really up to the individual - you can choose the vocational route instead, go through a Further Education college, and come away with qualifications in specialist areas (catering, mechanics, etc), or you can go straight into the workforce. Uni marks look crazy at first (40 is a pass) but they mark pretty harshly - 70 and above is high-IQ genius first-class stuff over here, only one guy I know got a 70 this year. Mid -60s equates to an upper-second class degree (2:1), which is apparently more popular with employers as they feel that the holder has probably had more of a social life!

philnrunt, looks like the forum censoring system has similar problems to one on a UK site I visit - it looks for patterns of letters without considering the whole word, and would often replace the word in question with "chicken". The fun starts when you attempt to discuss plumbing - consider the alternate name for a stop valve...!

Bye for now
