"Trailer Train" British Style
Posted by andrechapelon on Monday, November 21, 2011 10:02 AM

Trust the guys at Top Gear (the original British version) to come up with this:

http://www.flixxy.com/top-gear-trains.htm

Filming was done on the Great Central Railway.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "intermodal".

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

This is hilarious!

James Mays is always good for something extraordinary. Remember his OO gauge train from Liddleton to Barnstaple?

Cheaper than building a train? I dunno. there might be a bit of advantages over a couple of used cars.

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!

I watched that some time ago. It was really funny when the kitchen car caught fire. There they are going down the track and flames are streaming from the windows.

That was broadcast on their show 9/12/2011 on BBC America.  I have it saved on my DVR.

Rowan Atkinson was the guest on that episode, as well.

Gee !   Top gear strikes again !   I like their British sense for extravagant absurdities and conquering of the senseless – and they pursue it with a convincing mixture of humor and being earnest about it – allegedly .   Obviously it was filmed on a museums railway’s site , anybody know which one ?

The TGV-12 sports train - *ggg* … spinning wheels trying to start but four trailers … Brunel , the first ‘pimp my stove’ sports locomotive designer with customized 96 ins rims ?   Jeremy forgot to mention : it was wide track and a convertible , too !

For more information on Isambard Kingdom Brunel see :

http://designmuseum.org/design/isambard-kingdom-brunel

Also , you may like to see the challenge video James tests the >> ginormous << 207 Peugeot city car in a race through Liverpool against Parcours , >> a couple of young men in silly trousers << - see what happened :

Or the ‘race to the North’ series ( A1 Tornado against Jag XK 120 and Black Shadow bike ) , see :

http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/train-race-part-4

http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/train-race-part-5

Sorry not all the links will work nor all the videos , yet there are some great scenes of the A1 with express speeding through the park-like scenery …

Seeing the trailer-train series , on my PC was also advertised this :

http://www.flixxy.com/bear-animal-nature-film.htm

The Bear – a film by Jean-Jaques Annaud .

Of course with a cougar involved I just had to look at the scene .  The description says it’s a >> fascinating << film >> the way director Annaud gets his ursine stars ( i e the bears ) to do what he wants << .   Later in the film the Kodiaks must cope with an invasion of hunters ( i e humans who actually kill animals for ‘recreation’ ) .  It says >> the film offers startlingly close-up looks at bear behavior << .

Obviously not at cougar behavior ‘cause a cougar wouldn’t hunt up a bear or a little bear in that instance .   It would be unwise – as the scene shows – and besides it’s just not on a cougar’s list of eatables , so to speak , and twice wouldn’t engage in just stupidly slapping the little bears face – sorry , some typical human low class style aggression got mixed in here , same with that ridiculous tongue licking in anticipation :  human low class behavior , not cat’s !  Besides , that idea of slapping wouldn’t make sense with a big cat having paws with claws that wouldn’t make a slap just a slap but produce bad scars , too .  Now what would a cougar , if at all getting into this , want to scar a little bear for ? to make start screaming for mom ?  And in this close up several ‘paw slappings’ leave but light scratches while in reality that should have torn the little one’s flews in rags !   Without intending to compromise intentions that may be good – on behalf of the bears , not the cougars who in regards of bad reputation could well have a little truth told in their defense :  all in all that scene was less than convincing , politely said .

My first thought seeing it was  “Gee , those computer virtual 3D graphics have become a lot more real looking since !” – well , small wonder when it’s supposed to be really real .   Not that I’m fully convinced – just in case :  how on earth did they make those independent minded Inhabitants of the Great Wide Open do things that only make sense to a human mind ???

I wonder …

Regards

My wife is recently immigrated from England and we enjoyed watching the linked Top Gear episodes together!  She is tolerating my "daft" hobby well and I drag her to the train shows here in Virginia and Maryland!
