Parts list for Athearn RTR SD 50 will a SD 40 Truck fit?

Cannot my parts list for some reason. I am looking for the part number for the two half's of the rear truck. One of mine got knocked off the desk and part of the mounting point for the worm clip got broke off.

I have tried HO seeker and could not find a parts list for it.

If I cannot find the correct truck, would a SD 40 truck fit? Don't care if the front and rear truck match far as looks. Just wondering if it will fit and work.

Ken,

  • The SD40 has the old Flexicoil truck
  • The SD40-2 has the newer HTC truck(except for Conrail engines)
  • The SD50 should have the HTC truck

At some point Athearn upgraded the desigh  to the new 'Hex' drive line.  Have you looked at the 'parts' listing on the Athearn web site?

Jim, I have looked at there sight and it makes my eyes bleed. Think there are over 10,000 parts numbers, well it seems that way. Whistling

Mine is a Hex Head version. Like I said, not concern with the looks if the wheels go round. SD 50 truck side covers are intact. So maybe they might fit the SD 40 truck frame. If not, I will paint the SD 40's and I am golden. Half blind any way! Whistling

 Thanks for the answer, Ken

Ken,Try calling Athearn parts department or try sending a e-mail..IMHO calling is far better then e-mail since you get to talk to a parts department employee.

The older SD40-FP45-F45 truck rode quite a bit higher, and won't fit.  Newer SD40 trucks are similar in design to the SD40-2 truck (for use on the former RPP SD38-SD40-SD45, and under Conrail SD40-2 and SD50), and should fit.  Or finding a SD40-2 truck shouldn't be too hard...
