Good Morning Folks,

a drab and wet day over here, so I need a good and hearty breakfast to cheer me up a little. Flo, make that bacon and eggs for me, buttered toast, a glass of OJ (no, not the Simpson kind) and plenty of hot coffee, please.

I am having slight computer problems. Fortunately, it is not my notebook giving in on me, but the mouse. That little wheel on top of it has quit working, so I can´t scroll up and down properly. It is just a nuisance, but I need to get a new mouse - here go another $ 30, which were not planned for.

On the issue of electric cars, I don´t believe this to be the answer for the future, even if those cars come down in price considerably. The process of charging the batteries just takes too much time, and exchanging the batteries while you go will require an infrastructure, which will be very costly to build. Producing those LiOn batteries is also a quite "dirty" process, requiring an excessive amount of energy. An even more important issue is that those batteries have only a limited service life, so electric cars will depreciate rapidly. I am afraid, there will be no single answer to the issue, but we will have to expect a bundle of measures, ranging from public transport, changes in "settlement" structure, changes in driving habits and many, many more. Life ain´t going to be as easy as it is today!

Looking at the traffic we face around Hamburg, my favorite form of transport looks like this:

This beast runs on 1.5 gpm, that´s gallons per mile!

Have a good day!
