Hi again,

it is too early for lunch, so I´ll just go for some more coffee to keep my eyes open, Zoe - thank you.

A friend of mine has been given a set of Kato´s N scale bullet trains and now wants to run them. He has asked me to design a layout for him, which I did during the rest of the night and the morning.

Here it is:

I had to do a bit of reading on Japanese model railroading practices to come up with this idea. The layout is based on a suburban passenger train station, with the inner and outer loop "reserved" for commuter trains. The remaining loops inside are meant for the Shinkansen trains passing through that station. There are also two small depots for commuter trains and an industrial spur, just to justify an occasional freight train. The layout will have to be built in 4 sections, to be able to store it on a shelf when not in use. The blue parts will remain unscenicked, only the yellow part is meant to have an urban setting.

Now you operation freaks will cry out load - no staging, not enough industries to be served by rail. But the bloke just wants to run his trains, without bells and whistles, no DCC, no frills. For that purpose, I think I did pretty good. I should start to charge money for that [}:)]

The good thing about making track plans like this is, that it keeps me from having bad thoughts about our future. I am pretty much at the end of my wits now, and I can just wait for things to happen. I have sent my resume to just about any headhunter there is in Germany, and even some in the UK, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. As I don´t speak enough French, I cannot go the Franco-Belgian route. Staying a happy camper is a tremendous effort. Your wishes and prayers do help a lot, though.

TTFN
