Luke,
there are many ways to get some ideas for a switching layout. You can do agoogle search using the key words "HO scale switching layout" (or N scale, should you model in that scale). You can else check Lance Mindheim´s web page - he has some could suggestions and also publishes a book about switching layouts.
If you want to collect some ideas here in the forum, let us know the scale in which you model and the space you have available. A switching layout can be anything from a small plank along the wall to a basement filling one.
All I see is your name.

I don't use IE-9, or Windows, for that matter, but I recall someone mentioning in another thread a compatability button you probably need to click. Upper right, I think it was.
Or just wait until an IE-9 user comes along.
Got it! It works now. Going to build the Mid-Atlantic & Western Ry: http://mrr.trains.com/How%20To/Track%20Plan%20Database/2007/08/Mid-Atlantic%20and%20Western%20Ry.aspx

This is Jonathan Jones' fine layout from the May 2001 MR. A small modification improves the operation by eliminating the unrealistic switchback spur that requires one industry to be emptied before another unrelated one can be switched.
This layout has been discussed a few times on this forum, most completely here:

Best of luck with your layout.
