Barry - a traverser is a transfer table, which you can build by using drawer slides. A sector plate is similar to a turntable, the pivot though not being in the center. Both beasts need to be build with an utmost degree of precision to avoid binding - not an easy task! I have built 1 transfer table so far and it required constant adjustments - no fun in this, believe me. Sector plate and transfer tables are a modeler´s last resort, if you do not have sufficient space to use turnouts.

Better to avoid ´em in scales smaller than O gauge!
