1st impressions...
Posted by swampsavage on Friday, January 28, 2011 4:51 PM

...getting back into HO, after a 2 year hiatus, and purchased a few new locos.

Athearn Genesis MP15-AC for $113.98

Athearn RTR RS-3 for $76.99

Proto 1000 RSC-2 for 64.98

Genesis runs ok but light stays dim 'till under mostly full power

RTR runs slower but grinds coffee doing it and light stays dim 'till almost full power

Proto runs smooth as all get out and headlight comes full soon after startup

Hope I can get the other, more expensive ones, to run as good as the Proto after break-in, lube cycle.  If I were a first time buyer, and held to 1st impressions, I'd stick with Proto.

welcome to the forums.

I agree, as a first impression, you have a couple that don't stand out.  Hopefully, after the normal break in period you will have some good runners.

Good luck,

Richard
