Athearn/Roundhouse 4-6-2
Posted by senior wombat on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 8:38 PM

I see that on the Roundhouse site, the upgrade of the old athearn 4-6-2 has been scrapped. Was looking forward to modifying it for one of the Rutland light pacifics.   Anyone know the reason behind this.  I am not aware of a quality USRA type 4-6-2 (i.e. BLI, MTH, Athearn) out there.  Is anyone aware of one that I have missed.

Thanks!

There were recently several threads on this topic. If you're up for a lot of reading do a search.

Otherwise, the word is the vender in China could not deliver the right quality at the right price, and was WAY behind svhedule.

Search this forum for 4-6-2. I and others posted info about the cancellation. I have been waiting three years. I emailed Athearn and they told me.

I compromised and bought a Spectrum 4-6-0 with Tsunami sound, NYC 1233 for $160.00. I will stick with the ten wheeler and pull some NYC passenger cars. It is not very close to that type of NYC 4-6-0 but I do not count all the rivets.

I was hoping to do that with a NYC Pacific.

I missed a slightly older 4-6-2 on ebay which I could have bought for $100.00 but was not paying attention to the time. Dave at NWSL has the replacement gears if one of the gears cracked as they were prone to do.
