Cleaning/test track
Posted by Medina1128 on Friday, November 26, 2010 11:51 AM

I made a section of track used for testing and wheel cleaning. It's wired to the throttle next to it. The holes in the end sections are so when locomotives get to the end, the couplers aren't damaged. The end sections are to prevent disasters.

When I originally made it, it was even with the top of the layout.

I thought the edge of the layout would look better if it was relocated even with the bottom of the layout.

I use common paneling for the fascia. I cut a strip across the grain. This allows it to bend around corners/curves.

Holding it in place, I trace along the shape of the terrain along the edge of the layout.

I cut along the line with a jigsaw.

I use flathead wood screws to hold the fascia in place; they won't show once the fascia is painted (either semi-gloss black, dark brown or forest green; I haven't decided, yet).

Marlon, you been holding out on us?  You have a substantial bit of work invested in your layout, and it looks really good!

Thanks, Crandell! And as cold as it's getting, I should be busy on it all winter!
