"Amtrak Silver" - is there such a thing?
Posted by Rob_C on Monday, July 26, 2010 10:40 PM

Okay so with the recent order of new Viewliners, I was going to try my hand at a Diner kitbash, and maybe a sightseer for the heck of it.  While there is an "ATSF Silver" out there by Polly Scale, I haven't seen anything specific to Amtrak.  Anyone found the perfect match for Amtrak viewliner or superliner body color?

 Thanks!

Amtrak silver is called "Platinum Mist" and available in a solvent type paint from Floquill http://www.testors.com/category/137236?n=1  I don't know of water base version, the closest would be a bright silver from Polyscale or Modelflex, however while you may be able to match other painted model cars (or come pretty close), these cars are actually stainless steel, so you might want to check out AntonioFP45's threads on replicating stainless steel.  http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/t/177174.aspx

Amtrak 'Platinum Mist' has been available from Floquil.  It is the color Amtrak use on smooth-side passenger equipment to make it match better with the stainless steel cars.  It is also what was used on the engines.

If you are wanting to paint stainless steel Budd cars, read AntonioFP45's threads about using Alcad paints - http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/t/177174.aspx
