Couplers too close
Posted by Jack390 on Sunday, December 20, 2009 4:15 PM

Hi All and Seaons Greetings,

I have some passenger cars which I believe are spectrum or bachman. They have vestibules on the ends and couple up very tight. They couplers are mounted in a coupler box and look like long whisper couplers.

Problem...the cars are two close together and on the curves they force each other off the track. I would like to change the coupler to get more room between the cars. Is there a Kadee model that would do the trick..????? Radius is about 24 to 26 inches on the smallest curve.

Thanks in advance for the input....

Kadee makes a long shank coupler #46 or #156. If you have the long shank coupler installed you will have to move the draft gear. The spectrum cars came with a odd coupler box that moved with the trucks, not the talgo mount that attaches to the truck. They never did work and your car may have been modified for body mount. If the coupler is mounted with a screw they may be easy to move. Ckeck the KADEE web site.
