Related to this subject, I once posted a subject looking for decent wheels for HO trucks, someone kindly pointed me in this direction:

Tyl is friendly, helpful and has great parts, mostly Herpa if not all. Good prices too. I bought several wheel-axle sets as well as several chassis' for projects.

For some really great HO model trucks to look at for ideas, check out the photo gallery at
http://www.1-87vehicles.org/ These guys are serious truck modelers doing fantastic work, I have gotton many ideas for vehicles here. Some of these builders model in HO because 1/25 takes up too much space after a while, but they do a high degree of quality detail work in 1/87. This kind of work makes a big difference in our HO trucks looking like models in a scene rather than just distracting props. Dan

Sadly, you missed the Roco No. 539 M936A1 5-ton 6X6 wrecker. Roco produced them some years ago as a Minitank military version and as one of their Miniaturmodelle collection which was shut down in 2001. This was a heavy-duty crane mounted on the M35 chassis.

You can still kitbash a version of your own from the Roco No. 771 M35 http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/625-771 or No. 553 CCKW http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/625-553. You will need to add a crane from another source (check some of Roco's other models or the Hiab cranes from Herpa and Kibri) and come up with a very nice heavy wrecker.

BTW: Trident and Roco GMC trucks are based on military vehicles and, as such, are not subject to GM's licensing.

There may still be some of the Roco No. 539 military versions hanging around. Check hobby shops, train shows and swap meets. It's worth finding them as they are a lot easier to kitbash and modify.

For wheels, it's easy to go right to the source, Herpa's North American distributor http://www.promotex.ca. Both Herpa and Promotex offer wheels, cranes and other accessories at a very reasonable price.

That #006312 "Parcel Service" van smells like UPS to me! I'll definetly be able to use it. I have a friend of mine that owns high quality computer equipment. He's capable of making decals for "Anything!" Looks like I'll be hitting him up for a couple of UPS symbols.

Also good to see that there are number of 1960s/70s styled trucks available.
