I want to Dullcote a few P2K units so I can add some weathering and the cab windows are glued in from the factory so they can't be removed. I can cut masking tape to protect them but wonder if applying a coat of Polly Scale clear gloss will protect them from crazing by the lacquer? They would dull but then could be re-coated with clear.
Am I on the right track?
As much of a headache as it may seem you're far better off masking them.

The cabs on my P2K Y3 mallets come off fairly easily if it were me I would remove the glass by using some debonder. It actually reverses the effect of C/A and other glues. I prefer Z7 Debonder it works well and have had good success with it so far. If your not into trying to remove the glazing then Microscale has Micro-Mask that also works pretty well. I have used it on structures but never on a locomotive.
Here is a link for the Z7 I would imagine it's sold in my hobby shops

Appreciate the replies.
Dullcote won't craze the plastic windows, it'll just dull it.
Debonder likely won't work as they use a solvent cement to glue in the windows, you can try to gently pry them out or use an Xacto chisel blade to separate the window glass from the cab.
The easiest would be to mask the windows with tape. Once covered, press around the edges of the windows firmly, then use a fresh blade in your knife and trim the masking tape by following around the window frame.

I use blue painters' tape for masking. It cuts and trims easily, and comes off without a problem when you're done. It really only takes a few minutes to cover up windows.
If you are actually painting the shell, then it's important to get a "perfect" paint job, including all the window framing. However, if you're just Dul-Cote-ing it, then missing the window sills isn't a big deal, and probably won't even be noticed. So, you can overlap a bit with the blue tape and it won't matter.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
If it were me I would mask off the windows with blue masking tape. Be sure the tape covers the windows completely and is stuck down well too.
I thin Testors Dull/Glosscote with Scalecoat2 thinner. Dull/Glosscote can be mixed to make a semigloss finish too.
I mask some, but I also keep a little container of my daughter's Playdoh handy and just stick in bits in many windows with enough sill space to hold them. Be careful it is still there when you pick up the model to spray it, since it does not bond, of course, but sits there through friction.
It is far less time consuming to apply.
It is a snap to remove, and just a little wipe with a q-tip takes any residue moisture/oil? away.
I will likely revert to masking, which I have done many times before. I trim close and try not to destroy the windshield wipers. I can always touch up the window frame by brush.
But I do like that Playdough suggestion. If only I had kids young enough or grandchildren old enough.
DD are talking diesels if so removing the window glass should be no big shakes after removing the body shell. If I am not mistaken they typically glue only the top to the roof of the cab.
Yeah right. Just go buy some playdough and use it, we won't tell.
Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.
