Will '70s Tyco and Lionel HO couplers mate?

I have a brother-in-law who dug out his childhood TYCO train set and I'm looking at giving him a '70s era Lionel HO boxcar and wondered if the couplers will mate?

 Yes, they should both be horn-hook couplers.
