60' Rivarossi Union Pacific Passenger Cars
Posted by Capt. Grimek on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 2:45 PM
Can anyone tell me if Rivarossi ever sold Union Pacific passenger car sets in the Yellow and Grey color scheme? I'm primarily interested in celestory roofed heavy weights but Harrimans or 30's/40's smooth sides would be ok too. I've done a lot of ebay/ online searches etc. but haven't seen anything in shorty 60'ers with the yellow/grey paint. Only the blue and grey. If anyone has or knows of an as new in the box set or nearly so, I'd be interested at a reasonable price...thanks. I might be interested in a Milwaukee Rd. set as well.

A couple of comments.

1. I don' believe Rivarossi ever made 60' passenger cars.

2. Both MDC and Atheran did.  MDC made the Harrimans and Athearn made the heavyweights and streamlined.

3. The Harrimans may be full size but 60' passenger cars were made by the model manufacturers to accomodate smaller radius curves on layouts.

Rivarossi / Walthers made 4 60' cars - Utility Coach, Utility Combine, RPO and Baggage car, all based on CNW 60' prototypes. Not sure if they were ever done in UP or not, they went thru several different makers and brand names in a short time; for a while they were available separately, then only in four packs. So maybe Rivarossi didn't, but Walthers/Trainline did (or vice versa).

MDC made 60' Harriman cars, Model Power makes ones (with interiors) that are 67' long IIRC.

Athearn makes heavyweight clerestory cars. The RPO/Baggage combine is 67', the Baggage and Coach are 70' (as were the real cars) and they make 70' "shorty" versions of 80' Pullman, Dining, and Observation cars.

Yes, Rivarossi did produce the 60' heavyweight passenger cars in the yellow Union Pacific colours.

The sets were made for Walthers as part of their Trainline series, there are three cars and a diesel engine in the set. These sets were made for just about every major railroad.

These is a set available right now on e-bay.

And the four car set was made in the Milwaukee livery as well. I was watching one on e-bay and forgot about it, went back to check and it had sold for around the $80.00 mark

There is also available a Northern Pacific set. It is in the two tone green livery.

This vendor by the way seems to have access to quite a few of these 60' 4 car sets. I would suggest you contact him. You of course know about the grey Union Pacific sets, I bought a set of thse my self from this vendor.

Thanks for your responses guys. I'll look into Trainline sets.Thanks. Don 7, Thanks again. I saw that Milwaukee set and thought they looked like 60 ft.ers but never received a confirmation from the seller so that, combined with his not fantastic rating caused me to wait and they were gone soon after. I have the NP sets but I'll go count them again. I think it was you who turned me on to them or the Sante Fe set for which I was grateful. If you come across the yellow and gray UPs and don't need them yourself, would you please let me know? I have them on my saved search but haven't seen anything but the blue and grey versions so far. If you can tell me what you've been searching for I can try and return the favor.

Yes, Rivarossi did make them. I just bought a set from an eBay store, and at what I feel was a decent price from Bulldog Trains and Hobbies.

I had noticed that they seem to have a supply of these 60' coaches in a few roadnames.  They also advertise on e-bay as well.
