Posted by De Luxe on Sunday, May 10, 2009 3:58 PM

I´m sorry for not having a nice landscape to run the trains through there, my trains only come to live in temporariliy built up floor layouts. But anyway, better than nothing. Enjoy the vids!

You've got some nice equipment. It's a shame they don't have a permanent place to live.

Some train is a lot better than no train!  Just visualize the buildings and trees (lots of trees).

Thanks,

I´m glad you enjoyed the videos. There is specific information for every single video written in the box on the right side of the video box, you can read all important information there. All my locomotives are made by Märklin except the GS-4 (as well as all cars except few freight cars and the UP heavyweights). It´s made by MTH but was converted to the Märklin AC system. But it´s still DCC. All of the engines except the Big Boy and the Bavarian 4-6-2 (that pulls the Orient Express) have DCC installed, so they are AC locomotives with DCC. The Big Boy and the Pacific are Digital AC locomotives, featuring a Märklin digital system that allows 5 functions (that´s enough in my eyes). All my locos, a couple of freight cars and all Märklin passenger cars except the Orient Express are (mostly) made out of metal. I only buy plastic if there isn´t any metal version available.

DeLuxe,

Your trains are beauties!  Forgive my questions but is it that you are living temporarily in the home that you're at?  Or is it a lack of space the reason you don't have a layout?

I hope I'm not coming across as presumptuous, but If only for running trains, a 1 to 2 foot wide shelf layout around your room (with a liftout section for the entrance door) would get your trains off of the floor and still give you continuous running.   The shelf layout I'm building is 56" above the floor, which allows me to keep my book shelving, hobby work table, and computer desk.  I got the idea after looking at forum member Driline's layout photos.

Have you considered something like this?

It´s simply the lack of space. The tracks are built up on the floor of the living room. I do that 3 x a year: 2 weeks for Christmas and New Year, 3 weeks for Easter and 3 weeks in summer or early fall. So my trains are in service about 2 months a year. I live in a flat, so there is no space for a layout. But I have serious plans for building my own house, that should happen in about 5 years. I already made a lot of plans, and there will of course be an extra room just for the layout. But until then it has to be in the way it has been since 1989 when I started that hobby.
