I am looking at a Broadway Limited HO 2020 4-6-4 JIE w/dcc & sound locomotive and was wondering if the Broadway Limited are reliable and worth the costs (approx. $300.00)?
Thanks Billy21

I think so.

I have one of the early run Hudson J1d's and it is very reliable. Nice looking, too.

I just sold one on sbay. It was a J1e, an excellent engine in every respect. It ran smoothly, was nicely detailed, pulled like a horse and the sound was superb. It is well worth its price, but shop around and you might find a deal on ebay or elsewhere.
Billy, I have Hudson from BLI and it is a good engine. Had to add a little weight to the front truck for better tracking. Sound is great, like it sound better than my other steam engines.
On BLI as a whole, there quality control is a little lacking at times. When there engines work right they are great. There repair center will bend over backward if you have problem, so that sort of makes up for quality control.
Is the engine a BLI with a QSI decoder or one of there Blue Line engines? Mine is a BLI with QSI, I paid $275.00 2 years ago for it.

Ken,
It's most likely the newest Hudson that BLI released in March. It comes with their new Paragon2 decoder in it.
Billy,
I saw one run Monday night at an open house. The guy had just bought it so this was it's maiden voyage. VERY nice looking and jaw-dropping sound.
Check the rods and drivers to make sure they have been properly oiled. I had to do that with an older BLI Mike I bought a few years ago. BLI steamers generally need a bit of break-in time so run it forward and backward at different speeds around your layout for an hour or two.
