Nice. I bet is relaxing to watch. And it;s not crowded like some small tabletop layouts. Yoyu could have some fun lighting the signals.

Oh yes very relaxing. How hard is is to light the signals?

Nice job, Justin.  I like the fact that in a small layout, you've allowed for 'space'.  There's room for scenery and details.  Keep up the good work.  But most importantly, have FUN!

Well, if you just want the lights, you can glue a pair of LEDS and wire them to a battery (The Tomar method, very easy) or get difficult and wire them up to a toggle and be able to change them which I don't know how to do or describe

Looks Good. Only problem is there is no such thing as a completed layout. Big Smile

Justin--

If you want to change things around, don't worry about the 'grass'.  As you get into the hobby, you'll probably find that you're going to want to add things, and scenery is the easiest thing on the layout to change.  If it's a grass 'mat' and you want to put in a house or a town, just cut out the 'mat' at the point where you want to change it.  If it's 'grass' that you sprinkled on and fixed with glue, then all you have to do is rub out the section you want to change and vacuum it, then replace the area with what you want.

I've had my present rather large MR in the garage for the past seven years and I'm always adding to or changing the scenery.  In fact, right now I'm in the middle of improving and re-shaping an entire mountain range.  And last year, I replaced an entire town!  Take it from me, scenery is the easiest stuff in the world to change.

Again, have fun!

If I could I would like a house

Then put on a house. If it shows on the grass, then find a porch. Or a flowerbed. Or both. Then you'll want a sidewalk, a garage, a car a driveway, a basketbsll goal, a bicylce laying on the lawn, hat's how the hobby expands. Pretty soon, you'll be out oroom.

How about a baseball diamond, a Soccer field, and or a Football field? Anyone for tennis? Big Smile

Get a mat? Or the other stuf? Little confused on the quote. I wouldn't do the mat (Unless you powder over it). If you have grass rubbing off, mix some ELmers and water, put down a layer of diluted glue, then sprinkle, glue, sprinkle, glue sprinkle til it's covered.

Looks great!Thumbs Up  I see many opportunities for you to add more structures or other scenery details.  I envy you, because I don't have a layout due to lack of space.  I just set up sectional track on the living room floor and run trains that way.

Great job, and keep up the good work.

Neat layout! Is UP 17 an SD45? It's hard to tell from that angle, barely being able to see the 6-axle trucks (and it's clearly an EMD) but the radiator flares give a big hint! I thought at first it was an SDP35, but the flares and paint gave it away...

Off to a good start, next thing I would do is add tress. I would look at the woodland super trees. I have a few of the plastic tress like you, only thing good I can say about them is they are better than nothing.

Your hill looks pretty bare, might get a portal for your tunnel as well. Like to see some more pictures as well.

BJ:

I like it.  It is neatly done.  The hill has a good look to it; it's not too sudden a slope.  I would think about putting another small, low hill in, perhaps a 2" rise between the track and school, to blend the terrain together.  Spraying the glossy buildings with Dullcote is also a good idea; it's simple, and they'll look more natural. (I fully intend to do this to some of mine...eventually. Big Smile)  The open space looks good, too.

I see you've also discovered the Dollar General "TRANSPORTER" sets of HO scale plastic cars and trucks...and I see some vintage Lesney Matchbox there too. Smile

Some little plastic people would be a great addition.  You can get them prepainted, or unpainted, which are a lot cheaper.  More trees are always good, too, as people have said.  Aggrojones has posted instructions for some easy-to-build fir trees that don't cost a lot, and look really nice.

Do you have any industrial spur tracks?  Local switching is a lot of fun.

Pick up a copy of Model Railroader and you'll find lots of cool stuff to try, probably more than you really wanted. Smile  As it is now, though, it's a nice model railroad.

Justin,

There's always room to edit the scenery.  In that green space you can put trees, bushes, wildlife, whatever.  I have redone my modules at the club many times.  You've got a decent start and I'm sure will learn much as you go.  Keep it up.

What size is your layout?  How many locos/cars?

Good evening all!

Thank you all for the kind words on my layout! Yah I guess I answered my own question bout the layout never being done, I just ordered, as of Thursday, 3 Amfleet II coaches from Walthers, and canceled the order from Historic Rail... I also got a Vally Growers Assn. grain elevator. I just got done tearing out the school house and the grass. The grass was really cemented in there! I can't wait to build the elevator and put it in! I will read through youre suggestions and see if I can do any of them. DAn,

I have 5 locomotive's I usally run. 1) a CSX -8 2. UP #17 SD45, 3. NS SD40-2 6099, UP 2-6-2 prarie 1836, 4. UP RSC2 1286. I have many cars including a Southern all-door boxcar and a SP SF merger scheem in the same car type. I have hoppers, paper scervice boxcars, gondolas, and the common flat car.

Yes you nailed it, I have 2 Transporter sets from DG. Theay really look like HO!

Well thanks for the complements!

Sinceraly, Justin
