Didn't Hermann Goering have a huge Marklin layout in Karin Hall before and during WW2? I saw pics somewhere of the layout and have always wondered who got the spoils when the Allies rolled thru his estate. I wonder if any of those trains ended up on auction someplace.

I heard that one about it being JUNK before as well from someone at a LHS--I got my dads old Marklin(Maerklin) set--passenger--no ID--1950's/60's---still run it and never had issues---
I wonder what it's worth WITHOUT the chipped paint...

I thnk the seller of this fine locomotive model must be feeling a bit fruity so went out on a kind of fishing expedition.
Marklin, Junk, I hardly think so. It has a deserving reputation of being prescision manufactured models.
Personaly, I have no interest in them other than when I as a kid a family from Germany moved into the neighborhood and the son had a Marklin train set. The models were lovely and felt so good when you picked them up and held them. They felt like magic. That was before I started to notice girls though.

Well I don't know if I would say their junk but I have not been impressed by any of the Marklin stuff I've ever seen especially some of the newer stuff and I could definelty think of a lot better ways to spend that kind of money

Yeah.. I'll second that. Never heard anyone call Marklin junk. BUT.. to each his own. Thanks for the enlightenment on this model. I don't know why I've never heard of it.
If it's such an amazing and rare train in such good condition, shouldn't it be going to a museum somewheres instead of on fricken ebay??? Or am I just nuts thinking a museum quality piece should go to a museum. I'm also thinking he won't sell it, at least that price. Chances are only someone who knows what it is would try to buy it. Then there's the people like me, who think it would be awesome to have that MODEL TRAIN but would never pay that much. Then there's the idiots who would call that guy an idiot for asking 28 grand for a toy train. But thing is, like I said, really only someone who know's what it is would buy it, and chances are someone who know's what it is also know's it's only worth the 7-9 grand that was mentioned so wouldn't pay more than twice that price. So am I loosing my head or just thinking in the real world.
