"...after seeing what someone else has done?" - No. I spent 4 mos and 26 generations of plans to come up with what I want for the space I have. I started track planning in Feb 03 and bought the first lumber for benchwork in June.

When my layout is finished I want to enjoy running the trains. I have put a lot of time and effort into making sure the sub-roadbed is flat and supported correctly - no bounce (which I learned about here on the forum) - and that roadbed and track are laid without kinks (learned how from the forum) or bad connections (again, learned from the forum). Working slow, checking and rechecking before each step I take has eliminated the need to tear apart anything. While I'm building, if I'm not sure what to do, I stop, come to the forum, and search for the answer. If I don't find the answer by searching I ask the question - there are a whole lot of very knowledgeable people here that have bailed me out before I make a bad decision.

Yes I am eger to run trains, as most of us are, but reading all the horror stories about derailments and "tearing up" what you just put down, sometimes destroying the stuff you just purchased, I am being patient, working diligently and hope to only do it once. I have been told that if you give the hardest job (doin' it right the first time) to the laziest person (me) he will find the easiest way (come to the forum) to get it done.

An expert I'm not, a sponge I am. I come to the forum daily to soak up knowledge from those who know. Thanks to everyone that share there knowledge and experiences to help those of us that need the help!
