Wiring the Athearn Genesis F-unit sound decoder??
Posted by Packer on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 5:25 PM

Does anyone know how the decoder that comes with an Athearn Genesis F-unit get wired in?

I got one of the decoders from an Athearn F-unit from a friend, and am wondering how it is supposed to be wired in.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I looked, the only labels are L1, L2, 2, L1, which I'm pretty sure is just the lights. The decoder in question is the one shown here:

From the picture, I can tell that the first 2 tabs on the sides are for the front truck, but I don't know about the other 4.

Knowing only that, is there any way to find out which ones go to the rear truck, and which ones go to the motor?

Hi Vincent

On my Genesis F9 unit the first pair connects to the front truck, the middle to the rear truck and the third pair goes to the motor.

L1 is the upper headlight and L2 for the lower headlight.
