I've bought from them many times over the years, but not recently.

I can't think of anything that went wrong - they are very prompt in their order processing - pretty satisfactory actually. They could have changed but I doubt it. I found their prices to be very compeditive.Thumbs Up

Cheers

I can't recall hearing anything negative about them on the other sites I go to.

I've purchased from them in the past with no problems at all.

If you're going to phone, know the Walthers catalog number of what you want because they are rushed and curt and don't like to be bothered with a lot of questions or pleasantries such as discussing the weather.

If you use the toll free number and it appears that you don't intend to order anything, they'll probably hang up on you, because they have a lot of paying customers on the line.

I usually try to order through my LHS, but I've made exceptions for Trainworld.  They are in New York, and I live in the burbs of Boston.  I'm a Scot, and I choose the least expensive shipping.  So, imagine my surprise when my first order showed up in under 2 days.  Then, consider that my next 2 orders showed up at my door the next day!

This is a great business.  They treat their customers well.

It depends on who answers the phone when you call. One time you get one of those 'What do You want" people and the next time you get someone who is really nice. Sometimes they really do go out of their way to be nice and helpful. Like stated before be sure you know  what you want when you call and have an item number if possible. I've order from them six or seven times and always got good service.

I buy from them quite often.  They are very reliable and their prices are very competitive.

What a dumb asss question.  "I am THINKING of buying from trainworld I was just wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with them?"  Any dipshht can figure out that people have had good and bad experiences.  Lets just assume for a minute two people tell you about bad experiences does that mena you will not buy from them.  Do you really need help ordering from a company?  Ok give us your credit card number with name and experation and the CVV code on the back and we will be glad to help you order.  Why do people ask for peoples advice before they SUPPOSEDLY decide to order from some company?  You have 1 feedback and that is your very best question?  No introduction, no hi or hello just a dumb question!

I've ordered from them many times and have no complaints, however, you should phone your order in instead of ordering online.

First off welcome to the forums! I have purchased from Trainworld before, although it has been about 6-7 years ago. As others have said, the experience was very good. In fact, my wife did the order for my Christmas gift and they were very helpful in making sure she got exactly what I wanted for the layout. Jamie

Great people, even told me once about a box they had found of an item that was sold out, thought I might want them as I had ordered the other items from the line, I did.

It has been a while since I ordered from them. But, each time I have ordered from them they were accurate and fast. The prices are great if you purchase items they are closing out (often you cannot pick a road name on locomotives on close outs). As others have said, be sure to know exactly what you want (Walthers #s or the #s they publish in their ads) because the folks taking the phone orders are busy busy busy.

I'd buy from them again.

By the way, do they still include all those flyers with every order? They used to throw in a phone book's worth of flyers with every shipment.

This is a Internet/catalog company that sells trains, not a train company that sells via the Internet. The customer service people don't know anything. As mentioned before you should not only know what you want, but have the manufacturer's part number so they get it right.

When I first ordered from them I bought two locos and asked for decoders to go with them. They asked me which one and I said, I didn't know and asked for a recommendation. I heard the CS rep yell back to a guy who said they all work. They sent me two cheap MRC decoders.

I still have them in my "trade-in-but-never-use" drawer.

I have used them before and it took three  weeks to get my order. They said they were waiting for one of the loco's I ordered which was supposed to be ''in stock''.

I don't use them any more because of that.

After many orders from many internet sites the one I always use now is www.onlinetrains.com

They have FREE SHIPPING on orders of 50.00 or more. Also one time I ordered 3 Intermountain boxcars and I recieved the package damaged and missing one car,the other two were ok. No insurance.  So I called them and told them what happened and they sent a replacement at NO CHARGE no questions asked

Sorry about your bad experience SpaceMouse.

TrainWolrd does have an actual store in New York city. They just happen to sell mail order (and have done so before the internet). The people taking orders (800 number) are real busy (that is all they do - take orders) and the ads used to say to call the store for questions. It could be different now. Last time I bought from them was over a year ago.

Very fast delivery, often have out of production items, excellent prices on what they do have but limited in their manufacturers they sell.  If you know what tyou are looking for down to the precise item number, they're fine.  Otherwise, as said they're curt and occasionally rude. They're based in Brooklyn, nuff said?

Probably a third of my layout came from Trainworld. Great prices. I've ordered on Monday, and had my stuff on Wednesday. They are curt, and all business, but have never been rude. I always check them, when I'm looking for something .

A couple years a go, I was looking for the Walthers, Arnolds Drive In kit, for my 50s layout. Walthers was sold out, and their "Find It" feature listed several hobby shops that had ordered it in the past. No mention of Trainworld. None of the other stores had it. Trainworld had it, at a discount. Walthers never refers customers to Trainworld, because they are discounters. But Trainworld will often have something, no one else has. Never had a problem with them.

They are not a hold your hand type of company, they give great service only if you know what you want!

I've ordered from Trainworld many times. Most of my large steamers came from them. Be sure to have the part numbers, Walther's or the numbers from the Trainworld adds handy when you order.

I don't think anyone can beat their prices. I have always received my order within 3-days of placing it and most of the time within 1 or 2 days. The orders have been right, every time.

I always order by phone. Their e-mail ordering system was archaic. I don't know if they have updated it.

I've always had good service from Train World. However I live on the far west coast in Califroania's northeast back country. I usually order from St Albins, Las Vegas, and  get it in two or three days. I always give item name and number and both places let me know if it's available. St Albin will have it shipped from their Illinois location if they don't have it on site.

THE BIGGEST differences I find in Mail Order discounters is is in SELECTIVITY in brands they carrry... TrainWorld  seems to specialize in CLOSEOUTS  - IF it's a model you want.

ALL of them ship what is in stock and  additional differences are how they handle unprrofitable back-orders....

I've been buying from TrainWorld / TrainLand before it was TrainWorld, back when it was just Pete Bianco selling Lionel stuff in a tiny MR ad in the early seventies via mail order (I still have a black and white mimeographed "catalog" from c.1973.) Always good service, they generally have the lowest pre-order price going.

They are indeed a real store in Noo Yawk (ask Tony Soprano) but although they sell a lot of different stuff they may still be primarily aimed at Lionel stuff as far as background info and making recommendations re decoders. AFAIK still a family owned business though Pete died a year or two back.

I've had relatively good luck shopping at Trainworld (I work in NYC so its a relatively quick subway ride over there).  They have a store in Brooklyn (which is where they process mailorders from) and a shop on Long Island.

I've used Trainworld for several years now.  As other have noted, when calling the 1-800 order line, you'd better have all your stock numbers, and road names ready.  They've never been rude, but they want to keep the process moving as fast as possible.  I normally get my orders the next day.

Calling the info line is another animal.  The info line has always provided helpful service and takes the time to answer multiple questions.   Also, if you intend on shopping there often, get on thier e-mail list for monthly specials and discounts.

Ive had good luck for many years with purchasing from Train World, They offer some really great deals, shipping can be slow sometimes, but the wait is worth it.
