Model railroad layout web pages.
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 6:52 AM
How many people have a web page of the model railroad they are building? I've seen Bob Boudreau's Fundy Northern(Outstanding pictures)and just recently Joeys train pictures, both these pages are amazing and I'd like to see how many more are out there.

Well, I'm not sure if my layout would measure up to the experts. But you can look over the BELMAR VALLEY in N-scale.

I recently purchased a new digital camera, and am in the process of posting updated (better) pictures. The first few on my album are newer and have digitally "enhanced" backgrounds. More to come over the next couple weeks

Here's my layout web site: http://siskiyou.railfan.net

I did get voted in the top 10 model RR web sites last year by Lionel Strang, and my sites had over 50,000 hits since I put it up a few years ago.

You can visit my East Central Indiana HO Scale RR at: http://cid.railfan.net/eci_new.html

Also, don't overlook the NMRA Webmaster's Choice series of on-line layouts. You can find the latest Webmaster's Choice on the NMRA home page at: http://www.nmra.org/ with a link to the archive of web sites run over the last several years.

I don't have a webpage for my layout (or a layout for that matter), but I have a few bookmarked that are pretty nice.

Boy you sure gave me some good ideas just by looking at your website. Looks great, I love the way that you have done your lighting, Very comfortable looking area to work in. I'm in the process of rebuilding & I definately know that there are going to be some changes made on my layout room, Also for my lighting I will have an on/off fading switch to dim the lights for the various moods of the day & night. You've done a good job!

Now that I have digital camera I've been toying with setting up my own website. My Server has a "deal" which allows me up to 5 Mega Bites of of free storage before charging me. How good is freewebs and are there any hidden snags I should know about?

Free web sites are not bad, but if you start posting nice digital images with good resolution, you will eat up 5 MB in a hurry. You can compress the image with the right software and save a ton of space without much loss in quality.

Here's a sample photo I took on my Siskiyou Line layout using a 6.3 megapixel Canon, and then compressed it way down for fast download. If you start out with a really good quality image, it's a piece of cake to get a nice looking image, even compressed like this one.

To see a much larger image (but still compressed)

I have lots more examples on my web site.

Trainweb promised me a site in 3 to 5 days on 12/28/03 but I never got it. I eamiled once and they said I'd get it soon but I've been waiting 3 months.
