Paint them any flat white......Here is a trick I picked up on many years ago that does a job like you have never seen when using decals. Place your decal where ever you want it, dab up the water, and lightly spray what your working on with to seal the dacals with "DEFT" semigloss spray. It melts the decals into grooves, around bolts etc.....and lets a dull covering over your work. You will be shocked how good this stuff is. REMEMBER a light coat only at first then you can spray the entire project. It drys in a few clicks of your fingers.
