You're looking at about $4000 revenue per car, and since there were about 16 to 18 cars in this train, that's about seventy-thousand dollars total, or about $1750 per mile of train travel.  No wonder the rail and track bed are in such great shape.  What a wonderful ride.  Makes me wish they didn't build the highway, killing any freight revenue or hauling cars and buses over this route.

Are you taking the longer train trip that actually goes to the Yukon?  I was on the train two years ago, just went to the summit within Alaska.  We got there on a cruise ship and the time was limited.  My trip was on a mostly overcast day, but still great.  I rode all the way up and all the way back on the rear platform.

I mostly took still photos, but did also use my little Canon Elph still camera to shoot some video too, check it out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Ew97jY_mM

Have a great trip!

I went up there, but we were in a "heat wave" (which was still pretty chilly) and there was a minor avalanche which shut down the railroad... I did get some photos of the units in the loco facility though... I really want to ride it...

I haven't been up there, but a good friend of mine just took an Alaskan cruise that stops in Skagway. I asked him if he took the train, but he replied the highway. He nearly got a punch in the nose. Smile [:)]

My next-door neighbor Frank and his wife took that trip about two years ago.  Came over and popped the DVD he took into my recorder.  Sat on the couch and just grinned at me, "Neener, Neener, Neener".  Haven't spoken to him since, LOL!

I've GOT TO TAKE THAT TRIP!!

I just got as far as White Pass (Canadian border).

There are more photos to come (outside-frame Consolidation, diseasiels, etc.)

I haven't looked at my WP&Y-produced DVD yet.  I'm waiting for when my RR friend comes over so I can gloat in front of him.
