"NEW" Atlas gp40-2
Posted by sfrailfan on Friday, July 25, 2008 1:36 PM
Hello Everyone,

I spent about 20 min comparing both Atlas gp 40 to 40-2 models and then also with the roster sites. I used BN since thats what I'm familiar with and I have the Atlas gp40M. (rebuilt gp40)

The new -2 unit is a phase I. The only difference I see is in the shape of the dynamic brake housing on one end, and that pushes forward the louver over the blower housing, probably making it shorter too. They both have rachet style brakes... both have grid style rads below the fans on the end of the long hood...

Anyone know what the visiable differences are beyond what I saw?

The doors under the radiator area are different.  Sight glass on the engineer's side.  Blomberg-M trucks with rubber pads instead of leaf springs, and shock absorbers (as appropriate). Cab interior should be different, Dash-2 electrical cabinet and control stand.

The step wells and other frame details changed over the production run.

thanks, WSOR 3801 I forgot about the sight glass, but I didn't notice the different doors or that these were different Bloomberg trucks, I thought they were the same, just with varying brake cylinders ect.

As far as the modeling details improving, ie, see through grills, better proto details, ya that better be there! It's there on the competion, and Atlas is usually leading the way, so.......
