Was this ever done.

In particular I would like to know, which MRR the dollar model of a jail was done

Memory tells me it was a tiny adobe single cell.

Kalmbach's book Easy-to-build Model Railroad Freight Cars reprinted some of the car articles.  I'm not aware of any other list or collection. You might try searching the index, link on main trains page.

Enjoy

You sure that was a dollar model - I remember that jail (OK, maybe not the same one) as 'The Jerrybuilt Jail', and since that exact phrase has stuck in my brain for decades, I readily found it on the MR index listed in the November 1976 issue (which also had painting Conrail rolling stock and 'free-lance' MOW rolling stock - man, I remember that issue like it was yesterday, not 31+ years ago...

Hi chutton01

I was sure till your postConfused [%-)]  but your thought might just do the job.

I will have to get that issuie and check it "If I can find it".

I was sure one of the dollar models was a one cell jail.

Mind you I will have to find an HO sized spray can lid (I don't think they Exist) if I can a spray can lid oil tank was definatly one of the $1 models but that was for NSigh [sigh]

I'm not sure about an oil tank, but it seems to me a bashed top from a large laundry detergent bottle would be a good start for a rooftop water tank. I also painted up a couple of large size salted nut cans that made good HO oil tanks with a little railing and steps. Oh yeah I'm also eyeing up some pasta cans for possible industrial use (nice imported pasta in stamped metal cans a bonus here).   J.R.
