Trouble with MR.com newsletter video
Posted by tattooguy67 on Thursday, April 3, 2008 7:36 PM
Hi all, am wondering if its just me and my computer or if anyone else is having this trouble but for some reason i can never get all the audio portion of Cody Grivno's desk segment, sometimes i get most of it, sometime only the music comes through, and i have never been able to hear what he says in the opening segment, like this weeks shows him getting off an elevator talking and i get nothing, then it shows him walking down the hall with his coat on and i get music, then him at his desk and i can see him talking, i hear music, but no voice, any body else have this trouble?, and also as an aside here, would it not make more sense to actually run the locomotive that you are reveiwing, not just display it on your desk?, oh well i would be happy at this point just to be able to hear him all the time, thanks for any info as always.

This could be a problem with your browser or plugins. It could also be a network issue coming to you. Hard to say without some tests. To strictly answer the question - I don't seem to have any issues either and YES! It would be great to see those locomotives actually run - same with cars.

His vocals are often on only one track, left I think. It could be that for whatever reason your are missing a track in your playback (perhaps a jack only plugged in far enough for one track to play?). Its kind of irritating since I listen on headphones at work and having him talking in one ear feels..  well.. weird.

Thanks for the info here guys, and ChrisNH do you think it is a software or hardware problem?, and do they change which track is the vocal one?, like i said sometimes it works ( other then the little intro thing, which so far has never worked ) and sometimes not, and all the other stuff works good, i listen to 2 different radio programs every day, and all the u-tube stuff seems fine, any thoughts?, thanks.

I think that its just how they made the video.

When you listen to a video made so the voice is dubbed onto both tracks as it should, you may not notice if one channel is missing. I just bring this up because I listened to this one.. couldnt figure out why the voice was missing but I could hear ambient sounds. I found my headphone jack was not pushed in all the way which made only one side play.. the side without voice.

Maybe the volume control has the balance set to one side, L or R, not in the middle L and R?

Cody, set up a sectional layout on a piece of foam and put it on that nice, clean desk.  You can always store it out of the way for the rest of the week when you're not shooting those episodes.  Better yet, do those segments in the MR&T layout room, wouldn't mind seeing more of that layout, even if the locomotive/train you're running doesn't fit the era.

Ok as much as i hate to do this i guess i have to tell on myself here, i owe it you all to settle the mystery, apperently the plug was in just far enough to let me listen to radio programs streaming on the web, but not far enough to hear the audio from Cody, i have no idea how it came out or for how long, and unless vibration had a hand why it would work with that segment sometimes and not others, but there you have it, i am now going to hang my head in shame for a while, and thanks again for the tips here guys, Banged Head [banghead]Dunce [D)]
